LINDA LAI
Harris College lost a beloved member of its family this past year: Linda Lai, who served as a lecturer and
assistant professor in nursing fromAugust 1997 to June 2001. Lai passed away in June at the age of 65. Her
contributions to Harris College were significant and she will be missed.
Lai was born in Pennsylvania in 1948. She was exceedingly bright in school, as well as being captain of the
cheerleaders, homecoming queen and prom queen. Lai went on to attend a licensed vocational nursing
school and became the head nurse in the PICU unit at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She received
her bachelor’s degree from LaSalle and a master’s degree in nursing at the University of Pennsylvania. Lai
and her family moved to North Texas in 1985, and she worked at a number of local hospitals including
Arlington Memorial Hospital and Children’s Medical Center, later becoming the nursing director in the
Intensive Care Unit at Cook Children’s Hospital. She joined the nursing faculty at TCU, where she inspired
many young women to careers in pediatric nursing.
Lai felt the need to return to hands-on nursing care and returned to Cook’s and became a pediatric nurse
practitioner. She is survived by her cardiologist husband of 33 years, Steve Lai, her daughter, Megan, and
four grandchildren.
